Losbeschreibung: B-9, BB-235. A very RARE late die state of this R-5 die marriage. Die State III has a bold die crack from the rim at 5:00 through the bust and a smaller one from the rim at the 2 in the date that curves above the 8 in the date. Light dove gray toning has some deeper charcoal accents in areas. Well struck devices show bold details despite the wear--you can tell this coin had a hammered strike when it was made. We do note a few circulation marks in the fields, commemsurate with the amount of wear this coin has. The Condition Census in the 2013 revision of the Bowers Early Dollar Encyclopedia is listed as 58,53,50,45,45,45, so this coin is clearly in that range. PCGS 30, NGC 29, CAC 5. The only CAC-approved example was of a more common variety, which realized $7,050 the last time it sold in April 2015. The current Collector's Universe value is listed at $5,000 and we think this coin is certainly worthy of a premium bid for its rarity. A prize for any advanced early dollar specialist. Cert.
