Lot Description
FROM THE M & S PETTY COLLECTION After the massive economic disruptions caused by the Civil War, the economy slowly began to rebuild. The mintage of silver dollars rose to 48,900 in 1866. These are scarce overall, but since specie payments were not made by the government, some were saved in Mint State for posterity. This is the ONLY MS63 to be approved by CAC, and it is easy to see why! This coin is ultra high end for the assigned grade. Semi-reflective, watery brilliance flashes boldly from below a rich blanket of toning. Iridescent in mixed shades of blue, pale green, and rich amber pops in a light. The devices are sharply struck up and the eye appeal is bold! PCGS 11, NGC 10, CAC 1. A PCGS MS62+ CAC sold in January 2021 for $4,950 and a PCGS MS64 sold in January 2020 for $9,600. The CAC CPG value is $6,750 and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,250. This CHOICE coin is housed in an older blue tag holder and is a true delight to behold! Worthy of a very strong bid! Cert. Number 14772499 PCGS # 6959
