1896-O Barber Half Dollar. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. Elusive even in lower grades, the 1896-O obviously suffered a higher rate of attrition than normal even for a lower mintage (924,000 pieces) O-mint Barber half dollar. In the experience of this cataloger (Jeff Ambio), in fact, the 1896-O is one of the most challenging issues of the type to locate in attractive, problem-free EF and AU. We offer here a truly significant piece, the surfaces minimally worn with plenty of bold to sharp definition and ample satin luster remaining. Essentially brilliant, and sure to excite the dedicated Barber half dollar collector.
