Lot Description
1846-O Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1, the only known dies. Rarity-2. AU-58 (PCGS). This boldly struck example features delicate silver-gray toning on the obverse with a similar appearance reverse interspersed with a bit of olive color. Most of the original finish remains, with the obverse particularly noteworthy. The condition is very nice for an 1846-O silver dollar and it is a delight to behold. The 1846-O is the first branch mint silver dollar produced in the United States. Only 59,000 examples were struck for silver bullion depositors who requested dollars. Most saw extensive commercial use within the United States, probably in the Mississippi River Valley. Survivors in VF or lower are obtainable with relative ease. Few examples survived with only minimal circulation, however, and even fewer escaped the rigors of commercial use entirely. This is a solidly graded Choice AU in which historical significance and condition rarity have combined to create a desirable numismatic treasure. PCGS# 6933. NGC ID: 24YH.
