Lot Description

The 1797 Cohen-2 die pairing has a fairly generous extant population of 500 to 600 pieces, but Bill Eckberg (2019) further observes that it is "very rare in grades above VF." And this is a lovely Extremely Fine example, boldly defined in most areas with warm copper-rose and autumn-brown patina that is a bit deeper on the obverse. Both sides are nicely centered, the obverse with universally broad denticulation around the border, the reverse soft at and near the upper left and lower right borders. Tiny planchet pits and wispy marks are more prevalent on the obverse, but none are singularly distracting or even very noticeable during in-hand viewing.
