Manley Die State 4.0. A handsome, originally preserved piece with glints of steel-olive and reddish-rose to a base of medium golden-brown patina. There is a minor planchet flaw (as made) at the left obverse border, around 10 o'clock, light carbon and build up is scattered about on both sides, central obverse with a few tiny, dull marks. The in-hand appearance is pleasingly smooth, nonetheless, and the texture is hard, tight, and shows nice frost for the grade. First of the Draped Bust half cent issues, and always in demand for type purposes, the 1800 is also one of the more readily obtainable issues in this series. Even so, most of the 1,600 or so coins believed extant (per Bill Eckberg, 2019) are in lower grades than this noteworthy Choice AU from the Dean Oakes Family Collection.
