Lot Description

First year of regular issue and an important transition year as the U.S. Mint finished up the Braided Hair Large Cent design and created this first "small cent." Fantastic luster and rich bronze-red color with just one area of deeper tone hidden within the lower right wreath. The strike is about 90% full, which is impressive given the harder copper-nickel composition utilized for the design. Tiny rim cuds (as minted) below the date and in some portions of the reverse periphery add interest to this unique uncirculated example.
