Lot Description

114.3 grains. Surfaces are quite nice for one of these, with very dark chestnut-brown fields and devices that are highlighted in light tan at their highest points. Fields exhibit a touch of graininess, as expected. Struck a trifle off center to the right on both sides, cutting off only the very tops of the letters in EBORAC, while the 1787 date is clear and bold. Usually seen die state with ramp-like cud at the 4 o'clock position of the reverse. The Nova Eboracs with the Britannia-esque figure facing to the right are decidedly scarcer than the version facing to the left, and this specimen would make an ideal addition to a colonial era type set.
