Lot Description
1760 Hibernia-Voce Populi Halfpenny. Zelinka 2-A, Nelson-4, W-13820. MS-63 BN (PCGS). High grade 18th century copper is always a delight to behold, especially when found with some original mint color, as here. Lustrous chocolate brown surfaces are unharmed by any hints of circulation, with flecks of original mint red at the peripheries and in the intricacies of the legends on both sides, with a hint of faded mint red noted around angel's head. The strike is quite bold for a Nelson 4, as the designs are never fully formed, resulting in some weakness at the laurel leaves and Hibernia's knee, chest and head. Well centered and fully dated, this specimen is one of the nicest, high grade Voce Populi halfpence we have seen in quite a while.
