Lot Description

The obverse is nicely centered within a fully denticulated border, the detail on that side universally bold to sharp. The reverse is also well centered for the variety, also generally bold to sharp in detail, although the border is lightly into the tops of most peripheral letters, similar to as seen on the McGrath coin (December 2007 Thirteenth Annual C-4 Convention Sale, lot 52). Light olive-brown and warmer copper-rose patina is nicely blended on surfaces that are hard, tight and smooth. The texture is frosty, the eye appeal is exceptional. Nelson-9 is the so-called Stern Bust variety of the Voce Populi halfpenny. The offered coin would be impossible to improve on without advancing well into the certified Mint State grade range, at which levels there are precious few remaining anyhow.
