Lot Description
1787 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 3-G, W-6090. Rarity-3-. Arrows in Left Talon. MS-64 BN (PCGS). Glossy deep chestnut-brown surfaces are immaculate to the unaided eye, and able to withstand magnified scrutiny admirably; interested bidders will be hard-pressed to find a mark on any size. A beautiful and fully struck specimen that ranks easily in the Condition Census for the variety, at least among third-party certified pieces, and almost certainly among the larger population in general. We don't recall seeing a 1788 cent with such an impressive appearance for some time now. Surprisingly, an example of Ryder 3-G was not represented in the spectacular group of Massachusetts copper half cents and cents in the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part V, offered by us (Stack's) in October 2004. Absolutely choice at every turn, and a spectacular coin that will long be remembered for its outright quality and aesthetic appeal.
