- Lovely quality for this rare and enigmatic type. Both sides are highly reflective in finish with iridescent champagne-gold and salmon pink undertones enlivening dominant golden-copper patina. Fully struck with superior eye appeal for the assigned numeric grade. Believed to have been made by the Soho Mint circa 1802 to 1803 as samples of the coining art, rather than as a circulating type. On the obverse, Hope presents two children to Liberty, a small sapling between them representing Myddelton's Kentucky colonization venture. The reverse is simplistic in design with ONE HALF PENNY around an inner circle, COPPER / COMPANY / OF UPPER / CANADA within the circle on four lines. An ever-popular type with "colonial" collectors despite its association with Canada; the Myddelton token obverse is a great drawing card for today's colonial specialists. Over a long period of years we have seen just a few of these, far fewer than we have handled of the Copper Company of Upper Canada tokens on their own or the wonderful Myddleton tokens. Highly desirable.
