Lot Description
Die State 111.5. If a nickname can make a coin well known and highly desired, the 1807 Overon-111b Bearded Goddess half dollar is it. The present piece is visually appealing with lilac and gray toning on both sides. The surfaces show a bit of underlying gloss, as well as faint hairlines, but no singularly distracting blemishes are seen. A nice conversation piece, and a significant example of the attribution at the certified Choice VF grade level.Overton-111b is the popular - and scarce - late state of this die marriage, the reverse with the 50/20 blunder and the obverse with a prominent die crack joining Liberty's chin to the top of the bust and continuing irregularly to its base above the digit 1 in the date. This terminal die state piece shows an additional obverse crack from Liberty's forehead through the letter E on the headband.
