PCGS recently launched its 2026 Quarter Quest, offering a $5,000 bounty and special Discovery Label to the first 2026 July 4th Quarter submitted for grading. This year’s Quarter Quest, which compelled Americans to look for one of just 250,000 of the 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarters carrying the special July 4th privy mark, follows up on the highly successful PCGS Quarter Quest programs of years past.
“We love revving up numismatic excitement with Quarter Quests,” says PCGS President Stephanie Sabin. “It gives collectors a chance to score a big win with our huge prizes and First Discovery Special Label. We’re also offering the opportunity to choose the Early Find Special Label for any July 4th Quarters postmarked up to October 4, 2026.”
Three lucky individuals happened to postmark their 2026 July 4th Quarters on the same date, each having the honor of sharing the coveted First Discovery pedigree and their submitters evenly splitting the $5,000 prize. The winners hail from across the country, with anonymous winners in South Carolina and Colorado, and then Darrell of Texas also landing one of these circulating rarities.
"When I found out about PCGS Quarter Quest on Facebook, I started really looking for [the July 4th Quarter] as soon as I could,” Darrell says. “I found the quarter pretty early, so I was excited." He said he printed up and filled out the submission form as quickly as he could and then rushed to the post office, hoping to get the quarter submission there before anyone else. “To my surprise, I was a winner.”
Darrell, who is a PCGS Set Registry winner with about 50 active sets, says he found the July 4th Quarter within three days of searching. “Establish a relationship with your bank manager and they will help you,” he advises. “Mine had a box of quarters ready to go when I asked for one.” He has since found other July 4th Quarters since landing the first one and submitting it. “You never know what you'll find in rolls or pocket change!”
