The Winter 45-EE Large D is by far the rarer of the two die marriages known for the 1859-D half eagle. The discovery coin was sold as lot 1117 in our (Bowers and Merena's) October 1999 Bass II sale, and only a few others have been positively confirmed in auction listings since.
