- 1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. C-8. Rarity-1. Manley Die State 6.0. Spiked Chin. AU-55 BN (NGC). One of "those" varieties that are well-known, even outside of half cent circles, and long featured in the Red Book as a variety to reckon with. Soft golden-brown surfaces are remarkably mark-free to the unaided eye. Late die state, obverse rim cud connects tops of LIBER. Choice for the grade.

It is presumed a screw fell from the press that struck this variety, smashing into the die and leaving behind the die markers that amount to the "Spiked Chin" variety today.
