1856-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS). Pleasing honey-gold patina blankets surfaces that retain appreciable satin luster. Lightly struck in the centers, as often noted in survivors from this coinage facility, although the detail is sharp to full elsewhere to readily uphold the desirable AU rating. The elusive 1856-D was produced to the extent of just 19,786 pieces, survivors scarce in lower grades and rare above the Choice EF level. Eagerly awaiting inclusion in an advanced Southern gold cabinet. PCGS# 8268. NGC ID: 25UX. Provenance: From the Alexander Collection. Collector envelope included.
