Description du lot
Virtually brilliant surfaces are strongly lustrous in a satin to softly frosted texture. Portions of the eagle are lightly struck, but otherwise we note bold to sharp strike detail. The in-hand appearance is far smoother than what one might expect at the assigned grade level. With silver still absent from commerce in the East and Midwest at the time, the Philadelphia Mint produced only 182,000 circulation strike quarters in 1872. This issue is scarce to rare in all grades, and Mint State survivors such as this are decidedly in the latter category with an impressive Rarity-6+ rating from Larry Briggs (<em>The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters</em>, 1991).
