A bold and lustrous near gem example of this date. While considered common in lower grades, the 1879 is decidedly scarce in MS64 or higher. Well struck, this richly golden toned example is just a small rim mark away from an even higher designation! PCGS 15, NGC 21, CAC 10. Only 6 coins are graded higher at NGC, MS65 being the finest graded. If you are putting together a type set of U.S. gold coins, this is an interesting date to add to your set.
