1866-S Liberty Half Eagle. No Motto. EF-45 (NGC). Deep honey gold with a hint of mint frost in the protected areas. Lightly scattered field marks are present, none of them offensive to the unassisted eye. One of just 9,000 <em>sans </em>motto examples of the date struck, and a rare item across the board -- <em>no Mint State examples of the date have been graded by NGC. </em>For the record, the PCGS on-line <em>Population Report </em>suggests that fewer than 100 1866-S No Motto half eagles exist, and that firm has not graded a Mint State example either! Rarity comes to the fore with this offering.
