An MS-61 alternative to the MS-62 offered above for the 1876-CC $20, this is an equally attractive and desirable example at the BU grade level. Satiny in finish with some frost evident, the fields also reveal subtle semi-prooflike reflectivity as the surfaces dip into a light. Striking detail is impressively sharp throughout, and there are only wispy handling marks to define the grade, none of which singularly distract. The Centennial year 1876-CC is one of the more readily obtainable Carson City Mint double eagles in lower Mint State grades, and it is consequently popular with mintmarked type collectors as well as series specialists. This one is more attractive than most at the assigned grade level and is recommended for inclusion in an advanced gold cabinet.
