Lot Description

Mintage: 41,000. 11 graded XF-40, 56 higher at PCGS. Scarce across all grades, the 1851-O half-eagle is certainly a prize at even the relatively humble XF-40 grade. The strike likely never was full (given the date and mintmark), yet both sides retain surprisingly fine definition, smoothed over only on the high points, and the obverse stars still offer full segmentation. Virtually no luster remains, and some highly attractive medium gold layers over the entire surface.
