1871 Round 25 Cents. BG-810. Rarity-7-. Liberty Head. MS-66 (PCGS). Here is a beautiful premium Gem quality example of this seldom offered variety. Aglow with vivid golden-yellow color, both sides are sharply struck with a delightful satin to modestly reflective finish. Only 15 Mint State grading events(running the gamut from MS-62 to MS-67) have been registered by PCGS for the BG-810 die combination, and a portion of that figure almost certainly represents resubmissions. Bob Leonard (2003) lists 13, again with likely duplication, while the most accurate estimate may be that of eight to 12 pieces provided by PCGS CoinFacts. The Oregon Collection specimen offered here is far finer than the Jay Roe coin (PCGS MS-63), and would serve as a highlight in the finest cabinet of California small denomination gold.
