Lot Description

1787 Nova Eborac Copper. W-5750. Large Head. VF-25 (PCGS). Much rarer than the usual "normal" head variety. The deep olive-brown surfaces are faintly microporous under low magnification but are otherwise free of niggling marks. Devices fairly sharp, obverse rim tight to tops of NOVA, bulging in the field at the effigy's chin area, reverse evenly centered though the rim engages the tops of VIRT. The design type is seldom seen and just as seldom offered for auction -- the present piece is about typical for sharpness and surface quality -- and we expect the bidding competition will be strong for this popular scarcity.
