Description du lot
The "skinny" flying eagle cent. Sharply struck on a copper-nickel planchet--this coin is totally original and exceptionally eye appealing. Housed in an OGH, the present near-Gem has rich watery mirrors under a dusting or totally original toning. We note a few tiny flecks but they do not detract. One of our favorite pattern issues and one that just proves how cheap they are! As an R-5, it is estimated that 31-75 examples are known in all grades, similar in rarity to a regular issue Proof 1858 Flying Eagle cent, which in PR64 would cost between $7,000 and $8,000. PCGS 24, NGC 13, CAC 4. The most recent PCGS-graded example to sell in auction was in our February 2017 Premier Sessions sale, where it realized $2,860. This coin, in an OGH is just as nice and should see spirited bidding from small cent collectors, as well as pattern specialists. Cert. Number 4247970 PCGS # 11877
