1866-S Liberty Eagle. Motto. AU-58 (NGC). Lustrous medium honey gold with lively mint frost in the protected areas. Some scattered marks are seen, none of them overbearing in stature and about what should be expected for a lightly circulated gold piece of this size. One of just 11,500 examples of the date struck at San Francisco in the first year of the design type to feature the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Evidently the entire mintage saw circulation to some degree, as neither NGC nor PCGS has certified a Mint State example of the date! Indeed, the present specimen is one of just two examples of the date called AU-58 by NGC. A grand opportunity is about to come your way, especially if you put stock in the finest known examples of each date. Don't let this rarity slip away.
