- Obv: Eastman Johnson's "holey" cent design, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and the date 1884 below a hand-cut perforation. Rev: The denomination ONE CENT above and an inverted shield flanked by two laurel sprigs below the perforation. Nicely reflective fields supports satiny, smartly impressed motifs. Pretty Gem-quality surfaces are dusted with pale golden iridescence. A couple of light planchet flakes and lint marks in the obverse field as are made and mentioned solely for accuracy. Approximately two dozen examples are known for the scarce Judd-1721 type struck in nickel, and this is certainly one of the nicest currently available to specialists.
