Lot Description
1870 Shield Nickel. MS-66+ (PCGS). CAC. With virtually pristine satin surfaces, it is little wonder that this bright and brilliant Gem ranks among the finest examples of the issue known to PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint struck 4,806,000 circulation strike Shield nickels in 1870, a significant reduction from the totals achieved in previous years. Mint State survivors are scarce in an absolute sense, and the vast majority grade no finer than MS-64. An exceptionally well preserved and attractive piece that is sure to have no difficulty finding its way into an advanced collection. PCGS Population: 5; 0 finer. PCGS# 3797. NGC ID: 22P4.
