Sheldon-269, the easiest 1805 to identify due to the long serif atop "1" in the date. The cataloger suspects die-state III with the break in the hair and several noticeable die clashes. Ebony-brown patina seems unusually original for a series usually subject to "improvements", as crumbles of verdigris and other grunge remain evident. While individual strands of hair show clear and distinct delineation from each other, separation at the forehead isn't quite bold enough to warrant XF consideration.
