Description du lot
1873 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. Closed 3. MS-61 (PCGS). One of the key dates to the Three Dollar gold series, the 1873 with the closed 3 is believed to be a restrike that came about after collector demand realized that a mere 25 Open 3 1873 $3 coins were struck. Today there are about 100-150 of these Closed 3 $3 pieces around, most of them show evidence of circulation. This particular coin boasts rich coppery-gold color throughout, reflective fields that offset the devices. Scattered handling marks as expected, but the fields and devices have no distracting or deep cuts or scuffs. An American classic that is well up in the Condition Census for the Mint State pieces that survive.
