- 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar. Proof-66 Ultra Cameo (NGC).
Exceptionally deep mirror fields reflect the light while the frosted devices show extraordinary depth and texture. The bold contrast is not only dramatic, but rarely seen on more than a handful of the earliest proofs struck. In the 1890s the Philadelphia Mint produced these highly desirable coins in greater quantities than ever before; while still quite rare, at least a handful exist from most dates. On the Morgan Dollar, the large-format planchet shows this feature to the utmost. A coin that stands as a testament to the 19th century craftsmanship at the United States Mint.
