Description du lot

Deep lilac-charcoal toning uniformly across both sides gives this piece a pleasantly original appearance. We also note enhancing blushes of olive, cobalt blue and champagne-gold that flash into view as the coin rotates under a light. Double struck on both sides, with strong details of the first impression clearly visible. The doubling to the peripheral design elements is particularly dramatic visually, most noticeably on the obverse in the date area. Bold AU detail throughout with an impressively smooth appearance and much luster remaining. Very pleasing and very rare as both early dollar and error coin specialists are aware, as such a piece appeals to both sets of collectors. An exciting error coin from the early United States Mint, and always in demand.
