Given that the various GSA sales of 1972 to 1980 account for the majority of Mint State Carson City Mint Morgan dollars in numismatic hands, with only 3,949 coins distributed at that time, it is little wonder than the 1890-CC numbers among the scarcer issues in this mintmarked series. By way of comparison the much lower mintage 1885-CC (228,000 vs. 2,309,041 pieces) was represented by 148,285 coins in the GSA holdings. Gems such as this constitute a small percentage of certified 1890-CC dollars in today's market, and they are always in demand among discerning numismatists.
