1865-S Liberty Eagle. VG-8 (NGC). Rarer than the highly publicized 1865-S 865/Inverted 186 variety, the normal date 1865-S is also a noteworthy condition rarity with few survivors grading above VF. Here we offer a heavily worn example, although we stress that both sides retain at least outline definition to all devices. The date and mintmark are bold, and a few moderate-size abrasions to the obverse are insignificant for an early S-mint Ten that obviously saw extensive circulation.
