1830 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-114. Rarity-5. Small 0, Large Letters. Good-4 (PCGS). This is a rare variety which is seldom offered and the <em>only </em>reverse die used in 1830 with the Large Letters style in the legend. Perhaps 50 examples are known in all from these dies, and several of those have surface problems or heavy cleaning. Not so here, as the surfaces exhibit light silver-gray hues, with a tad deeper gray in the fields. Smooth wear and problem-free, with pleasing visual appeal for the grade. Many bidders will focus on this Rarity-5 variety that also displays the distinctive reverse letters as noted.
