- 1936-D Texas Independence Centennial. MS-68 (PCGS).
Intensely frosted surfaces with delicate champagne-gold iridescence. Issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Texas' independence from Mexico. The reverse design features portraits of Sam Houston and Stephen Austin, a depiction of the Alamo, a kneeling and winged figure of Nike as Liberty wearing a flowing gown and liberty cap, and Texas' six flags. The 1936-D issue is easily obtained at lower levels of Mint State, but is a formidable rarity in the grade offered here.
Provenance: From the Abigail Collection, Part III.
PCGS Population: 19; with a single MS-68+ finer.
