1825/4/(2) Capped Bust Quarter. B-3. Rarity-3. Good-4 (PCGS). Terminal die state with a late retained cud through the letters NITE with the portion of the die breaking at the side of the U and D, and rarely offered with this break so pronounced. The fact that the stars appear at all on the opposite portion of the coin confirm that this was a retained cud as once a portion of the die entirely falls out, both sides in that area lose striking definition. Smooth wear and attractive surfaces for an early quarter with a few light pin scratches, but these are more than offset by the handsome gunmetal-blue toning. There are approximately 15 to 20 known with this very late retained cud so advanced, mostly in moderate grades.
