- 1854 Pattern Flying Eagle Cent. Judd-164 Original, Pollock-189. Rarity-5. Proof-66 BN (NGC). 95.5 grains. An eagle flies to the left on the obverse with 13 stars around the border and the date 1854 below. On the reverse we note a laurel wreath encircling the denomination ONE CENT with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border. Struck in bronze (93% copper, 6% tin, 1% zinc) with a plain edge.<br /> The weight given on the NGC insert confirms this pattern as an original striking of the Judd-164 type, examples of which fall into the range of 90-100 grains. (Restrikes weigh approximately 113 grains.) A fully struck piece with bold copper-brown patina to both sides. Smooth and attractive Gem quality!
