The 1859 is an early Proof Liberty Seated dime with a reported mintage of 800 pieces. Given that numismatics was in its infancy in the United States of the late 1850s, it should come as no surprise to read that several hundred examples were placed into circulation when they failed to sell to contemporary collectors. With Choice and Gem survivors far scarcer than the mintage would imply, this deeply toned specimen represents a significant bidding opportunity for advanced Liberty Seated collectors.
