Description du lot
1936 Buffalo Nickel. Satin Proof-66 (NGC). Warmly patinated in iridescent apricot-gray, a few streaks of slightly bolder toning are evident over the Native American's portrait. Fully struck with a delightful satin to modestly semi-reflective finish. The 1936 is the first Proof Buffalo nickel produced since 1916. Rarer than the only other Proof Buffalo nickel of its era -- the 1937 -- the 1936 has an original mintage of 4,420 pieces. Nearly two-thirds of the coins struck were made with a satin finish, as here, though the number of Brilliant and Satin Proofs known for the date are about equal in today's numismatic marketplace. Both variants are scarce in the finest grades, which fact confirms the significance of the present offering for the quality conscious collector. PCGS# 3994. NGC ID: 278X.
