1823/2 Matron Head Cent. N-1. Rarity-2. EF-45 (PCGS). OGH. An endearing piece with a two-tone appearance on both sides. The dominant patination is deep brown in color, the right third of the obverse and lower right reverse border with lighter golden-brown toning. Overall detail is sharp for the assigned grade, and accuracy alone compels us to mention a few light surface marks on the obverse and faint hairlines in the center of the reverse. Among middle and late date large cents, 1816 to 1857, no other issue rivals the 1823 in terms of either scarcity in numismatic circles or collector demand.
