Lot Description

1838-C Classic Half Eagle. AU-50 (NGC). With a low original mintage of just 17,179 coins, this was the first half eagle issue from the Charlotte Mint. This is an example of the rare Repunched 5 variety, in a late die state showing a thick diagonal die break across the reverse. This lightly circulated piece displays attractive mint-green toning and bright surfaces.
