1812 Classic Head Cent. S-288. Rarity-2. Large Date. AU-55 (PCGS). An exceptional Choice AU to represent the conditionally challenging Classic Head large cent. Hard, satiny surfaces are smooth in hand with no detracting marks or other blemishes. Steely-copper patina is perhaps a bit deeper on the reverse, yet even and attractive overall. Apart from trivial softness around the reverse periphery, typical of the type, both sides are boldly to sharply defined throughout. Off the market since collected by our consignor's father in the 1950s/1960s, this conditionally scarce Sheldon-288 is sure to catch the eye of quality conscious early copper collectors.
