- 1860 Liberty Seated Dime. Breen-3318. Type I Obverse. Proof-65 Cameo (NGC). A lovely example from an optimistic production of 1,000 coins. In his Encyclopedia Walter Breen suggests that at least 527 were sold, “rest mostly melted or spent.” This particular piece is the Type I obverse, as noted, distinguished by having five vertical shield lines in the upper right section. Satiny mirror fields and frosty motifs form a pleasing cameo contrast. Gem quality exemplified with a touch of pale champagne to add to the overall appeal.
