1843-C Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Large Date. VF-35 (PCGS). OGH. Vibrant yellow-gold patina and considerable satin luster combine to make this a particularly desirable coin in a product of the Charlotte Mint. Softly struck at the central high points, as almost always noted in an example of this issue, yet sharply to fully defined toward the borders. The Large Date is the more readily obtainable logotype of the 1843-C quarter eagle, the mintages of the two varieties 23,076 vs. 2,988 pieces. The 1843-C Large Date is also one of the most plentiful Charlotte Mint quarter eagles in numismatic circles, making it a favorite with both Southern gold specialists and advanced type collectors.
