Lot Description

The 1885 three-cent nickel is one of those few U.S. coin rarities (at least from the classic era) where fewer circulation strikes were made than Proofs - 1,000 of the former compared to 3,790 of the latter. This fact makes the 1885 the rarest three-cent nickel as a circulation strike. The present example shows strong detail for the grade and handsome originality that also helped it secure coveted CAC approval.
