Lot 416 1831 N-8 R3 PCGS graded AU50.The obverse is glossy medium chocolate brown; the reverse is frosty tan and light brown mellowing to chocolate on the highpoints. No roughness; only a few trivial marks. The notable marks are a small pit or planchet chip over the O in ONE and a minor rim bruise over the second S in STATES. Rare LDS with a raised retained cud break at TED S. The Holmes coin was called finest of the die state (our sale 5/30/2010:345), and this piece is clearly superior. Our grade is VF30.
