1870 Round 25 Cents. BG-808. Rarity-3. Liberty Head. MS-67 (PCGS). A truly amazing example of an otherwise readily available variety. The reflective fields and frosty motifs are impressively lustrous and aglow with warm olive iridescence. Die State I, O of DOLLAR closed at top. This magnificent little link to the rich history of post-Gold Rush California has some interesting circular lathe lines from the die preparation process. Not only is the present specimen the finest BG-808 certified by PCGS, it is in rarefied company -- within the entire population of PCGS-certified California Small Denomination gold coins -- 24,951 pieces from MS-60 upward -- the firm has called just 19 separate coins MS-67, with no specimen finer than that grade within the entire population of the series. The present beauty is a must-have for anyone currently building a type set or and advanced cabinet of California Small Denomination gold -- you certainly won't find a finer specimen of the variety in today's numismatic marketplace!
