A lustrous and frosty example with blooms of rich reddish-rose patina on vivid medium gold color. The design elements are fully rendered and the surfaces are expectably smooth for the assigned grade. Though nearly 1.2 million examples of this issue were produced, survivors are surprisingly scarce in Mint State. The recovery of 1,085 examples from the wreck of the S.S. <em>Central America</em> somewhat increased availability, though fewer than 500 pieces likely exist across all Uncirculated grades - far too limited of a total to meet demand from the growing number of gold type collectors and double eagle enthusiasts in today's market.
