Lot Description
Handsome mid-grade quality for this challenging denomination in the Oak Tree series. Richly toned in pewter and steel gray, both sides offer fairly strong central detail. The tree is sharp and surrounded by a complete circle of beads, on the reverse the digits 652 and Roman numeral III are bold, swelling has effaced most of the digit 1 in the date and the central beads at lower left. Centering is quite good, although some waviness has resulted in uneven wear and loss of detail to several of the peripheral features. On the obverse the letters MAS, S and T are boldest, reverse shows a clear NEW EN ND, the first letter E mostly filled with a die break. A dull, old mark on the obverse along the bottom of the lowest tree branch at left is the only blemish of note on this well composed VF example.
